Women and the Tobacco Epidemic
WHO estimates that there are currently 4 million deaths a year from tobacco, a figure expected to rise to 8.4 million by 2020. By then, 70 percent of those deaths will occur in developing countries. Global estimates indicate that about 12 percent of women smoke compared to about 48 percent of men.
